PERSONALITY

Reality

(Awkward, Quiet) Only somewhat socially. Drossell’s way of making ‘friends’/communicating used to be through aggressive behaviour and fighting, so actually settling with passive, slice of life conversations is a new concept to her. However, if it’s too suffocating for her, she might snap and act like a schoolyard bully to someone she dislikes and thinks is weaker.

(Timid) She loathes this fact terribly, but Drossell knows she’s as fragile as a glass rod now. She may have fun prodding and bullying someone, but once they show that they can and will fight back, she’ll back off right away. She’d love to exchange punches but in the state that she’s in, it’ll result in much more pain than adrenaline. Also stays far away from anything that she thinks can hurt her, such as stairs or a very sharp corner of a table, bordering on paranoia.

(Bitter) Terribly pessimistic about things now that she believes her life is practically over. Almost doubles as a Drama queen once she’s comfortable enough around you to be vocal about her feelings. (Think Marvin from The Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy). Tends to be more comfortable with people she can relate to.

(Quick-witted) When brawn goes down, brain goes up. Now that Dross can’t busy herself with more physical activities, she has to settle with either subtle or mental ones. It’s boring but, though she doesn’t want to admit it, her now elongated train of thoughts did give her a better perception on things, along with a lot more downer thoughts.

(Principled) She’ll gladly jump at any chance to insult or even devalue anyone she doesn’t like, but strictly draws the line at death threats or anything related to the subject. Dross won’t even kill the bugs she catches in her room; she’d try her best to throw it out the window, even if it was a spider.

(Woman of her word) Once she’s said it, she’s doing it, no refunds. Promises are almost like a pact for Drossell, and she’d rather die than break one. That said, getting her to promise something is a challenge, since she also deems it as an intimate act.

Dream

(Aggressive) At any given chance, she’d try to pick a fight with you. Sometimes she’ll leave you alone when you decline, other times she’ll try to agitate you into fighting. It all depends on how well-built and strong she thinks you are. Drossell is also aggressively loud in actions and language, using strong physical communication and sharp words, even when she’s not trying to irritate you. She doesn’t much care for whether she loses or not, she just really wants the adrenaline rush that she feeds off like a drug, and this feeling carries over even through her waking moments. Her eagerness may be mistaken for masochism, even.

(Dull-witted, Positive) Ohh yes, she’s kind of really slow sometimes. It’s a near complete reversal of her state in the Real world; what she really wants is to feel, not think, and not dwell on the past and focus on the present. Ignorance is bliss, they say. She believes that worrying will just make you ‘overthink’ and make you forget to take action. Being dull-witted isn’t the best thing to have alongside bravery, though..

(Dauntless) Almost stupidly so. Willing to take on opponents far stronger than her, and will absolutely walk straight into a haunted hellhole just for a 10 bucks bet. One could say she’s reckless, actually.

(Persistent, Strong-willed) Again, almost stupidly so. She’s very headstrong and when she has her mind set on something, she wants it done no matter what. Gets annoying when it comes to her pestering you to fight with her, too, because Dross never gives up on anything she likes or believes in, dead wrong or not.

(Principled) Very much like her Realself, she has a strict no-killing policy and a moral code she follows closely. Dross will not attack anyone she deems weaker than her (will still fight if they request to; but she’ll treat it more like a spar) nor will she kill anything. She sticks closely to the rules of a fight (if there are any in the first place) and usually likes to wait for an opponent to prep themselves even in the middle of battle. The furthest she’ll go in violating her personal policies is beating a person into good, long unconsciousness.

HISTORY

What she remembers

She wants to fight. She’s always wanted to fight. That was the pillar of all her dreams as a little girl, though to be fair, she can’t really remember if she had any other dreams or not.

The first time Drossell ever laid her eyes on a fight was when, during a trip home from a day at the amusement park, her family came across the scene of two men throwing punches rapidly at each other. They were shouting madly and both were red in the face from anger and blood, and god how she wished she could remember why they were fighting in the first place. The security guards came in swiftly and wrapped up the situation before too much of a commotion could be created, and as much as her parents had tried to shield her eyes from the violent scenario, Drossell became enamoured. She didn’t know why herself, but the idea of going all out on another person was strangely attractive to her. Maybe it was because that was the very first instance that showed her that the world isn’t so safe. Maybe it’s because she just wants to rebel against something. She isn’t very sure.

Drossell spent the rest of her childhood watching boxing matches, martial arts tutorials and begging her parents to bring her to an arena fight (to no avail). She gleefully became a playground bully just to give herself the satisfaction of fighting and got herself quite a number of suspensions, though she was never really expelled due to her promising behaviour in class and towards her studies. She especially excelled in P.E classes as was advised to join one of her school’s sports clubs many a times, but they weren’t ever her taste.

In her adolescence, she was given an invitation by her neighbour to attend a kung fu class, to which she obviously agreed to go. It would’ve been her first taste, her first experience of proper technical fighting. She would’ve learned how to do a good roundhouse kick, an uppercut, a dodge. She would’ve been a natural, she thought. She never got the chance to find out.

That night, her house collapsed. The old, wooden foundation had finally given way and had sent the pillars of her house collapsing and the roof caving in. Drossell was home alone and had no one to guide her out in time. She remembers her room just slanting so unnaturally it was like a pack of cards about to spill over, hearing the frighteningly loud sound of her pipes twisting and bursting, the brick walls falling apart bit by bit and then everything went black.

Everything else from that day onwards was a blur. All she knew is that she couldn’t move for a solid two years and could only watch her healthy, perfectly fit body waste away into a mess of bones and skin. Drossell knew she was lucky when she finally got her body moving, but with only one full leg now and a stick of a body, she’s a shell of her former self. She never got to attend that kung fu class and prove to herself that she could fight.

What really happened

The fight she saw at the amusement park was not between two strangers, but her stepfather and biological father over custody issues. The fight did reach a conclusion, with her stepfather as the winner before security could get it under control and he was still as good a father as can be, though this taught her that you can only get what you want by fighting, the reasoning she forgot.

Her childhood is exactly how she remembers it as, except she did attend that kung fu class and even moved on to professional MMA training. Drossell was indeed a natural and was aiming for a good, high spot on the ranks of power in the fighting world. She won multiple streetfights, and one day was finally invited to a proper MMA arena that would’ve given her the first spotlight she’s had. This was the invitation that she was forced to decline.

The building that collapsed wasn’t her house, but a newly built motel she was staying in for a day till the her debut in the arena. Unfortunately, the motel had an architectural flaw and chose to collapse on that day, burying its tenants under rubble. Drossell was one of the luckier ones to survive, though her right leg had been crushed completely and her spinal cord suffered from trauma, rendering her stuck in the hospital and paralysed.

ABILITIES

Energy Redirection
Drossell is able to ‘absorb’ and then ‘redirect’ forces or energy thrown at her. However, in order to do this, she has to ‘catch’ it with her hands. For example, she can block a punch/energy blast with a hand and either transfer the force through her body and down onto the floor, or through a physical counterattack back at you. However, not all that energy is redirected. She will still have to take on 20% of the full damage to the areas the power is transferred through and more depending on how long she has to circulate the force internally till she finds a solid outlet (I.E, hit with a blast midair, or in water with no nearby objects). If she does not release the energy through some medium within 5 seconds, she will suffer its full potential.

Speed Blitz
She can land a total of 10 weak blows onto a target within 3 seconds, her motions becoming a blur to the naked eye. This does tire whatever limbs she uses to attack her target with and also has a cooldown timer of 2 minutes, so she only ever uses this when in a pinch and in need to daze an opponent. Dross may raise the bar and do 10 stronger blows within 3 seconds, but whatever limbs she uses will be too weak to land anymore hits and impair her movement.

Pressure points
Consists of using quick, successive jabs to one’s pressure points to numb the feeling of pain. Will not heal injuries, it only delays pain for 3 minutes. She can use this for attacks as well, but it doesn’t do much except give you muscle cramps. Dross won’t be using this all the time either; not good for her fingers. Will only work on things that can feel pain at all.

OTHERS

  • Suffered from temporary paralysis due to damage to the spinal cord that lasted 2 years. Has since recovered after various treatments, but this inactivity is the cause of her Osteomalacia and Muscle atrophy at present.

  • Real!Drossel has a port wine stain birthmark across her face, triangular in shape and just touching her left eye and eyebrow. Dream!Drossel has a stroke of warpaint in its place.

  • Suffers from Phantom Limb Syndrome which sometimes results in her misjudging a step or two.

  • Walks with a slight limp.

  • Real!Drossel knits socks in her spare time.

  • Dream!Drossel’s voice is deep and rather androgynous, whilst Real!Drossel’s voice is soft and gentle lapis lazuli from steven universe lmao.
